The Ken-Sai Valley in the Nooken district, Jalalabad is one of the few habitats of the gray monitor lizard in Kyrgyzstan.
In addition to the monitor lizard, other “Red Book” species live here, such as the Central Asian tortoise and the legless lizard — yellow-bellied lizard etc. White storks have also chosen these places, for which there is a sufficient food supply here.
Unfortunately, during our expedition, we recorded traces of the barbaric extraction of turtles and monitor lizards in the form of dug holes of these reptiles.
We hope that in the near future, together with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Institute of Biology of the Kyrgyz Republic, local governments and local environmental activists, we will organize a micro-reserve, a wildlife sanctuary or a protected area of local importance here to preserve and protect rare and endangered species of fauna.
